3 Quick Things 🏈 Jalon Daniels and Lance Leipold

A Jalon Daniels Hearing, a question, and a quote for the Jayhawks

Today’s Hearings are Presented by Homefield Apparel 👕

This 1990s KU Crewneck absolutely screams “Beat Oklahoma” to me. And that’s how I’m feeling right now as a KU fan. To me, Homefield represents the voice of the fan, and I’m thankful to have them as our exclusive sponsor for college apparel.

3 Quick Things 👇

One Hearing: Jalon Daniels’ Status

I continue to Hear Jalon Daniels will be a more active participant in practice this week with the Jayhawks. I’m more optimistic now than I was at this time last week about his chances of playing vs. Oklahoma. But it truly just depends on how his back responds to throwing and running in practice.

As I understand it, Daniels is actively working to recover from a back injury that caused hip and leg issues before the Texas game.

Some of you have asked: I’ve not Heard anything credible about Daniels’ sitting because he wants to transfer. I’ll let you know if that changes, but I don’t buy that rumor right now. And if he’s truly hurt as I’ve been told, it’s wrong to spread that rumor around. If Daniels wanted to transfer, he could’ve done it this offseason before the team started 4-0 and was headed to Austin.

Lance Leipold also seemed to address the rumor after the Oklahoma State loss.

One Question: How Will Lance Leipold Respond to Criticism?

I keep thinking back to ESPN’s GameDay profile of Kansas football last season. Leipold told the story of talking to his wife after receiving a standing ovation at Hawk Talk following a 12-point loss to Oklahoma.

“Can you believe they’re clapping for playing close?” Leipold said he told his wife. “We’ve got to change this. We’re not going to get in the moral victory business.”

Leipold has changed the KU fanbase. The Oklahoma State game was frustrating. People were pissed. And there were some coaching mistakes in the fourth quarter.

I have to wonder: What does Leipold think about the criticism deep down? Is he pissed, or is it a sign that he’s changing the culture in a way he’d hoped?

Part Two Update: KU-NCAA Investigation

I originally planned on posting Part Two of the KUHearings investigation into the NCAA and IARP. I just wanted to let you know I’m still hoping to publish Part Two by Wednesday.

This is a good thing, but a lot of new information came my way after Part One was published. I’m essentially rewriting a lot of the story as a result. I can’t wait to share it with you.
