3 Quick Things
1. KU’s QB Situation
Lance Leipold addressed a few key points about Jalon Daniels during his press conference on Monday. I’ll get to those first before adding a Hearing to the current situation.
Leipold said Daniels will be the starter when he’s healthy enough to return. He said KU isn’t at that point right now.
He also said that KU hasn’t addressed the possibility of Daniels redshirting, which completely makes sense. If Daniels can make it back, KU will play him.
I’m Hearing Jason Bean has been practicing with the starters so far this week, which is in line with what Leipold suggested in the press conference. It looks as if Bean will be the starter again vs. Iowa State.
It’s interesting… credible CFB reporter Brett McMurphy said Daniels would’ve been available “if needed” against Oklahoma on Saturday. I’m guessing McMurphy got this directly from KU’s staff. It’s hard to get clear on how he could’ve been available Saturday but isn’t healthy enough to start this week.
For now, I’m operating as if Bean is the quarterback until I’m told otherwise. And as always, I’ll keep you posted.
2. One Stat: 22% 😁
KU’s fourth-down offense has been one of the worst in the country. They’ve converted on just 22%, ranking no. 127 nationally. It doesn’t make much sense, as the Jayhawks rank in the top 30 in almost every other offensive category.
BUT, one of the few successful fourth downs for KU this season came in the form of a 37-yard completion to Lawrence Arnold with 58 seconds left in the OU game. The play saved the game for KU.
The Jayhawks are an opportunistic football team. Even in areas where they’ve struggled this year.
3. One Quote 🥹
“I just want to say thank you. Thank you for allowing me to come back. Thank you for allowing me to be with this team.” - Jason Bean
