Hunter Dickinson is a Jayhawk🚀

The Jayhawks officially have a roster capable of winning a national championship. Again.
Hunter Dickinson committed to Kansas on Thursday. The best player in transfer portal history announced his commitment to KU via Instagram.
Bill Self made Dickinson his No. 1 priority as soon as he hit the portal, and the hall-of-fame coach don’t miss. Self publicly announced his intention to go after Dickinson during an early April press conference in which the coach calmed fears that he’d soon retire.
“We need a big guy that can go out and get 20 and 10,” Self said.
The Jayhawks brought Dickinson in for a visit last weekend, and they seemed confident by the time he left. The star 7’1” center was a second-team All-American in 2021. Last season he averaged 18.5 points and 9 rebounds per game, shooting 56% from the field and 42.1% from three.
Kansas immediately boasts one of the best rosters in the country by adding Dickinson (more to that in the next section).
Dickinson could’ve gone anywhere, but he officially picked Kansas over Kentucky, Maryland, Villanova, and Georgetown.

KU’s Roster Situation 👋🔜
The Jayhawks have one scholarship spot remaining now that Kyle Cuffe is gone. The timing lines up, as Kansas sits in good position with five-star recruit Mackenzie Mgbako, who just visited Lawrence.
There are now major roster changes to come. Essentially, I think someone will either de-commit or transfer out soon. It’s pretty late in the process, so we can revisit this assessment if it doesn’t happen within the next few days.
Here’s who I think the most likely candidates are:
Zuby Ejiofor - He sits behind Dickinson, KJ Adams, and Ernest Udeh in the depth chart (and Mgbako is visiting). Ejiofor has too much potential to get buried like that. I would guess that he enters the transfer portal.
Chris Johnson and Jamari McDowell - Both incoming freshmen PGs have struggled some in their final year before KU. With Arterio Morris committing, they can’t be thrilled about their playing time prospects.
Ernest Udeh - The reasoning here is the same as Ejiofor. He sits one slot higher in the rotation, so I’d think Self can keep him on the team. But it’s not a sure thing at this exact moment.
Here’s the rotation in its current state:
Not Quite Ready: Jamari McDowell, Chris Johnson, Kyle Cuffe
PG: Dajuan Harris
Combo Guard: Elmarko Jackson, Arterio Morris, Elmarko Jackson, Nick Timberlake
Big Wings (4): KJ Adams, Marcus Adams, (Mgbako if he commits)
Center: Hunter Dickinson, Ernest Udeh, Zuby Ejiofor
Yup, this is Scoopsmafia 🤣
Context needed: Walk-ons Michael Jankovich and Wilder Evans took Dickinson out on his visit to Lawrence. They’ve earned their spot in KU lore 🤣.
