The Jayhawks got their guy.
KU’s top target and 2025’s No. 3 overall recruit Darryn Peterson committed to Bill Self and the Jayhawks on a dramatic Friday night. The 6’5” combo guard from Ohio picked KU over Ohio State, USC, and Kansas State.
The drama started earlier this week when rumors of a last-minute NIL pitch by Ohio State spread on social media. The chatter made it sound like a bidding war taking place in the last 48 hours.
Whether it’s true or not… the rumors certainly got a lot of people to tune into Peterson’s live YouTube announcement with 247sports. The announcement video is below.
Peterson immediately becomes KU’s key piece to build next year’s team around. He’s known as an all-around guard who can handle the ball or play on the wing.
He projects to fit well playing with guys like Rakease Passmore and Flory Bidunga.
247Sports’ Director of Basketball Eric Bossi just ranked Peterson No. 8 on a list of the best high school shooting guards he’s seen the last 15 years. He had Peterson ahead of Eric Gordon, J.R. Smith, and Tyreke Evans.
You can see why below.
What makes Darryn Peterson the top ranked guard in the class?
▪️positional size, strength, length
▪️versatile multi-level scorer
▪️advanced getting to spots + FT line
▪️poise + vision as a passer
▪️defensive playmaking + rebounding📺 youtube.com/live/iPB5dPjwW…
