Zeke Mayo is Coming Home

The Jayhawks landed a commitment from hometown star Zeke Mayo on Tuesday, shortly after his second visit with the school. The Summit League Player of the Year picked Kansas over Creighton, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Mayo immediately becomes KU’s projected starter as the two-guard next to Dajuan Harris. The 6’4” guard averaged 18.8 pts per game and is a career 39% three-point shooter. You can see more stats here.

The Jayhawks needed to add shooting and experience, and Mayo checks both of those boxes. He ranked in the 96th% in making guarded jump shots last season, according to Synergy Sports. He’ll take pressure off Hunter Dickinson and Harris.

Kansas has long been interested in Mayo. One of the biggest question marks I’d Heard was around his athleticism. I’m sure KU investigated this and felt comfortable with what it found.

Mayo scored 19 points against Iowa State in first round of this year’s NCAA Tournament. Watch highlights from that game below.

Kansas and Mayo flirted in the past. Both parties finally felt like it was time.

Mayo has one season left. And he’ll play it in Allen Fieldhouse.

🏀 The Big 12 is delaying its Mexico City games to 2025. KU was originally scheduled to play Houston there in 2024.

🏈 Kansas offensive analyst Matt Lubick took the OC job at Nevada. It’s a big loss for the Jayhawks, but also great news for Lubick. He had been battling leukemia. KU appears to have landed its replacement from Iowa State.
