Bill Self Makes Unexpected Trip to See Hunter Dickinson

Bill Self doesn’t play for second place.

The Kansas coach flew to Michigan today to once again visit Hunter Dickinson, their No. 1 target in the transfer portal. This meeting comes just two days after Dickinson finished his official visit to Kentucky.

Kansas has built its entire offseason around the possibility of adding Dickinson, a player who can give an immediate 20 and 10 every game. He immediately makes the Jayhawks a National Title contender.

The stakes with Dickinson’s recruitment are tremendously high. In yesterday’s Hearings, I wrote there was growing unease in Lawrence about Kentucky’s efforts to land the star big man.

Dickinson will command major earnings through NIL, and Kansas can beat just about every school in the country here. However, if there is one Boogeyman with NIL value, it’s Kentucky and John Calipari.

With Dickinson expected to announce his commitment next week, it appears Self didn’t let Calipari get the last word.

It’s not just Kansas and Kentucky vying for Dickinson. He will visit Villanova on Friday, and is interested in hometown schools, Maryland and Georgetown.

Dickinson’s camp has remained quiet throughout the process. I don’t know where 7’2” center is leaning, but I don’t think Self would make the trip if KU felt it was out of the picture.
