Hearing: The Latest on Jalon Daniels 😫

I went to work on scooping after Jalon Daniels didn’t travel with the Jayhawks to Ames. What I’m Hearing may help make sense of the situation, but it’s not gonna make you feel much better.

It sounds like Daniels is still trying to play for KU this year. There have instances where he’s gotten back out there with the team, only to be sidelined again when the back pain gets too severe after practicing. Last week was a setback.

The back just hasn’t consistently moved in the right direction. There have been times when his back has genuinely improved, but then his injury regresses again. This may explain some of the wishy-washy messaging from the coaching staff as to Daniels’ return.

With only three games left, it’s getting hard to see Daniels making it back on the field this season. But it’s not for lack of trying.

Lance Leipold addressed the up-and-down nature of the injury earlier Monday.

Ultimately, the quarterback has been in too much pain after he tries to get back on the field for KU. The details I’ve Heard (shared above) really don’t sound like a player sitting out because he plans on transferring.

This week’s Could Be Wrong show addressed the Jason Bean as QB1 conversation. You can listen via Spotify, Apple, and watch on YouTube.

In case you forgot how good Daniels is, just watch this play.

KU Hoops Opener Rundown

Game 1: Kansas vs. North Carolina Central at 7pm CT on ESPN+

Vegas Says: Kansas -29.5

Kenpom Says: Kansas 85, NC Central 54 | Torvik Says: Kansas 87, NC Central 57 (Torvik is like Kenpom)

The Kansas basketball season officially starts tonight. Here are three quick thoughts:

  • Some KU fans are already nervous after watching the Jayhawks’ exhibition games vs. Illinois and Fort Hays St. Yeah, KU hasn’t looked great at times, but here’s my take on it: Getting ranked preseason No. 1 sucks. There’s almost no way to live up to the ranking. That’s especially true when your rotation is 50% new guys.

  • Yes, three-point shooting for KU is a legitimate concern. I’ve Heard the concern echoed among my sources close to the program. But KU hasn’t really run serious offense in a game we’ve watched. Until we see Hunter Dickinson backing working guys with his back to the basket, things are still somewhat casual. I expect the offense to open up a bit once that happens.

  • I’m excited to watch Johnny Furphy now that he’s had a bit more practice run after the shin splints injury. I figured it would take him a little bit to get caught up to speed. We should be getting close now.

Underdog KU Hoops Squad Ride 🚗

Underdog has KU hoops Pick Em contests online, and I’m all over the Hunter Dickinson and Nick Timberlake numbers. I’m taking Timberlake lowers and Dickinson highers (especially 16.5 points). You just need to pair it with one pick from another team.
