Hearing: What Happened & What Comes Next

Kansas played a patient game this offseason — and then missed on two big targets. The path forward for KU to fill out its roster gets a little trickier, but there are still quality options out there.

Here comes the pivot.

šŸ“‰ What Just Happened

I’m Hearing KU was simply outbid for NC State-bound forward Darrion Williams and Duke-bound Euro Dame Sarr.

Sarr flipping to Duke wasn’t a stunner. KU missing on Williams was a bigger surprise for me. In the end, Williams prioritized the biggest check and guaranteed usage.

There are different variations of how close KU’s offer was, but it ultimately doesn’t matter. The Jayhawks weren’t able to match NC State’s offer.

And KU’s board got real thin, real fast.

So where do they go from here?

šŸ”€ KU’s Three Paths Forward

šŸ›« Path 1: International Additions

This is already underway. KU’s focusing on overseas prospects. This is be a bit higher risk, higher reward. But it’s where the most value remains right now.

A few names surfacing:

šŸ“ˆ Brice Dessert (France, Big)
The Jayhawks are interested. Dessert won’t be the cheapest option, but he’s a 22-year-old who can make a difference right away. I think he’s KU’s top target today. Can KU get him away from France to come be its sixth man?

šŸ“‰ Ben Henshall (Australia, Wing), Neo Avdalas (Greece, Wing), Marko Radunovic (Montenegro, Guard)
KU has made contact with all of the above, but I’m Hearing they’re unlikely to move forward with any of these players.

 šŸ”Ž Wild Card
It’s so difficult to keep a read on international players. It’s a broad talent pool, and I think we need to be aware that a player could easily come out of nowhere and commit.

šŸ”„ Path 2: Wait for a Transfer to Decommit

A few portal situations haven’t settled. If a committed transfer reopens recruitment—whether due to fit, coaching changes, or NIL hangups—KU will be ready.

There’s no active smoke right now, but I’m sure the staff is monitoring the board. This kind of late shakeup happens for a few players every year.

šŸ•µļø Path 3: Land a 2025 Reclass

KU is tracking a couple of 2026 recruits who might jump to the 2025 class.

I’ve Heard the Jayhawks are primarily focused on guys who can contribute right away, so the reclass candidates aren’t the top priority. But they’re still in play as KU needs depth.

A few names surfacing:

šŸ†• Kohl Rosario, Miikka Muurinen.
Rosario is visiting KU later this month. I’m Hearing the 2026 prospect is likely to jump into the 2025 pool. View his scouting report here.

Murrinen is a top prospect but a bit more of a reach to join KU next season. Check out his profile, he’s worth keeping an eye on down the road.

šŸ€ Bill Self announced KJ Adams will join the staff next year.

I’ve Heard this is likely for a long while, as KU can help pay for Adams’ medical expenses while he recovers from a torn achilles in KU’s NCAA Tournament game.

This will likely look a lot like Perry Ellis’ season as a GA for the Jayhawks.
