Hearing: What Happened & What Comes Next
Kansas played a patient game this offseason ā and then missed on two big targets. The path forward for KU to fill out its roster gets a little trickier, but there are still quality options out there.
Here comes the pivot.
š What Just Happened
Iām Hearing KU was simply outbid for NC State-bound forward Darrion Williams and Duke-bound Euro Dame Sarr.
Sarr flipping to Duke wasnāt a stunner. KU missing on Williams was a bigger surprise for me. In the end, Williams prioritized the biggest check and guaranteed usage.
There are different variations of how close KUās offer was, but it ultimately doesnāt matter. The Jayhawks werenāt able to match NC Stateās offer.
And KUās board got real thin, real fast.
So where do they go from here?
š KUās Three Paths Forward
š« Path 1: International Additions
This is already underway. KUās focusing on overseas prospects. This is be a bit higher risk, higher reward. But itās where the most value remains right now.
A few names surfacing:
š Brice Dessert (France, Big)
The Jayhawks are interested. Dessert wonāt be the cheapest option, but heās a 22-year-old who can make a difference right away. I think heās KUās top target today. Can KU get him away from France to come be its sixth man?
š Ben Henshall (Australia, Wing), Neo Avdalas (Greece, Wing), Marko Radunovic (Montenegro, Guard)
KU has made contact with all of the above, but Iām Hearing theyāre unlikely to move forward with any of these players.
š Wild Card
Itās so difficult to keep a read on international players. Itās a broad talent pool, and I think we need to be aware that a player could easily come out of nowhere and commit.
š Path 2: Wait for a Transfer to Decommit
A few portal situations havenāt settled. If a committed transfer reopens recruitmentāwhether due to fit, coaching changes, or NIL hangupsāKU will be ready.
Thereās no active smoke right now, but Iām sure the staff is monitoring the board. This kind of late shakeup happens for a few players every year.
šµļø Path 3: Land a 2025 Reclass
KU is tracking a couple of 2026 recruits who might jump to the 2025 class.
Iāve Heard the Jayhawks are primarily focused on guys who can contribute right away, so the reclass candidates arenāt the top priority. But theyāre still in play as KU needs depth.
A few names surfacing:
š Kohl Rosario, Miikka Muurinen.
Rosario is visiting KU later this month. Iām Hearing the 2026 prospect is likely to jump into the 2025 pool. View his scouting report here.
Murrinen is a top prospect but a bit more of a reach to join KU next season. Check out his profile, heās worth keeping an eye on down the road.

And what happens beyond the next addition..

š Bill Self announced KJ Adams will join the staff next year.
Iāve Heard this is likely for a long while, as KU can help pay for Adamsā medical expenses while he recovers from a torn achilles in KUās NCAA Tournament game.
This will likely look a lot like Perry Ellisā season as a GA for the Jayhawks.
