Hearing: What Happened & What Comes Next
Kansas played a patient game this offseason β and then missed on two big targets. The path forward for KU to fill out its roster gets a little trickier, but there are still quality options out there.
Here comes the pivot.
π What Just Happened
Iβm Hearing KU was simply outbid for NC State-bound forward Darrion Williams and Duke-bound Euro Dame Sarr.
Sarr flipping to Duke wasnβt a stunner. KU missing on Williams was a bigger surprise for me. In the end, Williams prioritized the biggest check and guaranteed usage.
There are different variations of how close KUβs offer was, but it ultimately doesnβt matter. The Jayhawks werenβt able to match NC Stateβs offer.
And KUβs board got real thin, real fast.
So where do they go from here?
π KUβs Three Paths Forward
π« Path 1: International Additions
This is already underway. KUβs focusing on overseas prospects. This is be a bit higher risk, higher reward. But itβs where the most value remains right now.
A few names surfacing:
π Brice Dessert (France, Big)
The Jayhawks are interested. Dessert wonβt be the cheapest option, but heβs a 22-year-old who can make a difference right away. I think heβs KUβs top target today. Can KU get him away from France to come be its sixth man?
π Ben Henshall (Australia, Wing), Neo Avdalas (Greece, Wing), Marko Radunovic (Montenegro, Guard)
KU has made contact with all of the above, but Iβm Hearing theyβre unlikely to move forward with any of these players.
Β π Wild Card
Itβs so difficult to keep a read on international players. Itβs a broad talent pool, and I think we need to be aware that a player could easily come out of nowhere and commit.
π Path 2: Wait for a Transfer to Decommit
A few portal situations havenβt settled. If a committed transfer reopens recruitmentβwhether due to fit, coaching changes, or NIL hangupsβKU will be ready.
Thereβs no active smoke right now, but Iβm sure the staff is monitoring the board. This kind of late shakeup happens for a few players every year.
π΅οΈ Path 3: Land a 2025 Reclass
KU is tracking a couple of 2026 recruits who might jump to the 2025 class.
Iβve Heard the Jayhawks are primarily focused on guys who can contribute right away, so the reclass candidates arenβt the top priority. But theyβre still in play as KU needs depth.
A few names surfacing:
π Kohl Rosario, Miikka Muurinen.
Rosario is visiting KU later this month. Iβm Hearing the 2026 prospect is likely to jump into the 2025 pool. View his scouting report here.
Murrinen is a top prospect but a bit more of a reach to join KU next season. Check out his profile, heβs worth keeping an eye on down the road.

π Bill Self announced KJ Adams will join the staff next year.
Iβve Heard this is likely for a long while, as KU can help pay for Adamsβ medical expenses while he recovers from a torn achilles in KUβs NCAA Tournament game.
This will likely look a lot like Perry Ellisβ season as a GA for the Jayhawks.
