BREAKING 🚨 Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk
After a tight recruiting battle, Kansas has officially landed former Texas PG Arterio Morris after a tight recruiting battle. The McDonald’s All-American committed to the Jayhawks on Instagram Live.
Morris has three-years of eligibility remaining, and was ranked 2022’s No. 1 PG recruit in 247Sports’ composite rankings.
It hadn’t looked good for KU the last few days with Morris, but Bill Self was able to pull off the key addition to next year’s team. He’ll provide much-needed backup for Dajuan Harris, while also getting plenty off run as a “two guard.”
Morris played his freshman season at Texas with a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, according to the Austin American-Statesman. His trial date is set for June 14.
While Morris averaged just 4.6 points in 11.8 minutes per game for the Longhorns, he stood out as a defender and a player with promising upside. The 6’3” point guard would also provide an athleticism boost with Big 12 experience.
As always, I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your support and for spreading the scoop.
Primo Spears, Jaylon Tyson and Mackenzie Mgbako
Former Georgetown PG Primo Spears announces his commitment on Saturday. Spears visited KU this week, and I think the visit went great.
BUT Spears is a two-time transfer, and there’s concern about him getting a waiver to play next season due to new NCAA rules.
I consider Spears a Florida State lean, especially with Morris’ commitment today.
Jaylon Tyson is currently visiting Kansas, and Mackenzie Mgbako should visit next week.
I’m Hearing Kansas will take whoever commits first of those two players — but is unlikely to have room for both. Kansas has strong interest in both players.
Tyson is a 6’7” perimeter wing from Texas Tech. The Jayhawks have targeted him since he hit the transfer portal as a promising fit.
Mgbako is a 6’8” five-star recruit who recently de-committed from Duke. Kansas could use Mgbako as more of a true “stretch four” who fits the roster with or without Hunter Dickinson.
Mgbako has been thought to be a St. John’s lean where he’d play for Rick Pitino, but I’m taking his interest in KU seriously.
Tyson is a Big 12 -ready player. He’s proven he can handle the league. Mgbako has a higher ceiling with more potential.
Again, I’m Hearing Kansas would take either player — but not both. If either commits first, they’ll get the spot.
I’m so interested in seeing how this plays out. As always, I'll continue to share what I'm Hearing. You can support The Hearings by forwarding this to anyone who would like it. Thank you for spreading the scoop 💪
