I'm Hearing Serbian 7-footer Mihailo Musikic has committed to Kansas for this season. And this is beyond the verbal commit stage: I'm Hearing Musikic signed with KU, but there’s one big step left.

The NCAA has not yet cleared him to play, and the case isn’t a sure thing. At least, not at first glance.

VIPs first got a text about Musikic on July 1, when I texted that KU was pursuing him to join this year's roster. The pursuit appears to be over. The paperwork is not.

I’m also Hearing former Arkansas big man Malique Ewin is no longer an option for the Jayhawks, which adds up. Ewin is trying to get a fifth year of eligibility. Musikic appears to be KU’s best shot.

Quick Musikic breakdown:

  • 🇷🇸 A 24-year-old, 7-foot center from Serbia.

  • 🏀 He played pro ball starting in 2022 and has bounced around different levels of the Serbian and Adriatic leagues.

    • He’d bring much-needed frontcourt depth and, frankly, experience for the Jayhawks.

  • 💼 He's repped by Miško Ražnatović, the agent behind Nikola Jokić and most of the Serbian-to-NBA pipeline.

There’s a chance the commitment never goes public outside of this newsletter. The NCAA review decides everything, and it’s getting harder for international players with pro experience to get cleared. We should know by the end of July, at the latest.

Musikic’s case will probably come down to something simple: How many years did he play professionally? And did he make more than a basic living wage to play?

Predicting what the NCAA will do here is a dumb idea. I’ll take a crack at it anyway LOL. My best guess is that KU and Raznatovic think there’s a good shot he can play if they let it get this far. I think he gets one year of eligibility. (Legit, a guess. Not a Hearing.)

How I See It:

  • Kansas needed another big and experience. It went out and got both.

  • Whether KU fans ever see him in the Fieldhouse comes down to the NCAA’s handling of new rules that are applied on a case-by-case basis.

  • And with that I say, good luck to us all.

As always, I'll keep you posted.

🏀 Ted Owens is officially headed to the Hall of Fame. See KU’s announcement and Bill Self’s statement. Owens goes in with a 2026 class that includes Danny Ainge and Jay Wright. The induction is Oct. 22 in Kansas City.

🏀 Darryn Peterson continues to tear up Summer League. Watch his highlights from Sunday, where he finished with 23 points, five assists, and two blocks against the Clippers.

🏀 Tre White is making a run with the Heat (This dunk was monstrous). He’s been starting for Miami in Vegas and dropped a 16-and-10 double-double on the Bucks. SI listed him among the long shots who could stick.

🚨 Former Jayhawk Lagerald Vick was charged with attempted first-degree murder. Vick, who started on the 2018 Final Four team, is being held on $1.5 million bond.
