Details emerging for KUās new field design
I'm Hearing the Jayhawks have finalized their new football field design... while the midfield logo will spark some debate, Iām liking the direction KU is heading in.
Iāve got intel on the midfield logo, endzone font, a new partnership, and additional special elements being included for the field design.
The Midfield Decision
Kansas is going with the classic Jayhawk, not the Warhawk, at midfield. I know this isn't the most popular choice, but I understand why KU went this direction.
The classic Jayhawk is iconic and critical for KU's branding consistency. It's not best practice to have one massive logo at Allen Fieldhouse and go with something completely different at Memorial Stadium.
The classic Jayhawk is clean, recognizable, and maintains visual consistency with KU's most iconic venue.
There was also hesitancy about putting an older logo design in a completely modern stadium. And, letās be honest, we all hope nothing about KU football right now ends up feeling retro.
Hereās the key part: I'm Hearing KU wants to save the Warhawk for special games and uniform combinations. Rolling the Warhawk out every game could make it lose its luster. KU needs ways to elevate their biggest games with fan favorites.
So the Warhawk isn't going away⦠it's just not living at midfield.
More Design Details
š¾ Wheat Elements: Iām Hearing thereās a very cool wheat design component thatāll be incorporated into part of the turf pattern. I love that KU has leaned fully into the wheat for the new stadium.
š Block Letters in, Trajan out: Iām Hearing we should expected clean, "KANSAS" block letters in the end zones that match the stadium's modern aesthetic. I donāt think there will be trajan font on the field, outside of the current Jayhawk.
Iām Hearing a lot of excitement around how the end zones look.
š¤ The Partnership Angle: Making this even more interesting⦠KUās field design is tied to a major partnership that's been months and months in the making.
I donāt have all the details yet, but Iām Hearing KU is fired up about this piece, making the field design more than just aesthetics.
Bottom line:
From the sound of it, this design balances tradition with KU footballās current modern direction. The Jayhawk choice will have critics, but it makes sense for national TV exposure and brand consistency.
