Hearing: Zuby Ejiofor Enters Transfer Portal

I’m Hearing Kansas sophomore center Zuby Ejiofor has entered the transfer portal. The decision for Ejiofor comes just 24 hours after center Hunter Dickinson announced his commitment to Kansas.

It’s a disappointing but sensible conclusion for both KU and Ejiofor, considering the roster situation at KU. I’ve Heard Ejiofor has been working out with the time in Lawrence all offseason and didn’t plan on leaving KU. But spending the next year(s) competing with Ernest Udeh for playing time behind Hunter Dickinson just didn’t make sense for his basketball future.

I’ve Heard Ejiofor showed potential in practice with decent shooting that we never got to see in games. He only cracked double-digit minutes one time in Big 12 play, and that was in the conference opener vs. OK St.

The Jayhawks now have two open scholarship spots. I’m Hearing they’ll look to bring in another big man to complete the front court in Zuby’s place.

KU has made contact with WAC Defensive Player of the Year Aziz Bandaogo from Utah Valley. He’d be a major, but unlikely, addition at this point. Bandaogo is a two-time transfer and isn’t assured eligibility next season. He’ll also want a spot with more playing time.

There aren’t many obvious options right now. KU can either take a less proven big man with upside, or an older player they’ll be confident can play in case of emergency. Orr….

A player currently going through the NBA Draft process could technically come back to college and transfer. It’s hard to see this scenario playing out, but I’m not putting anything past Bill Self right now.
