Hunter Dickinson Madness: Breaking Everything Down

Note: This is all changing rapidly. Here’s what I know as of 9AM CT.

  • Hunter Dickinson was planning on announcing his college decision yesterday. That decision was pushed. I don’t know exactly why the decision was delayed, but Something happened.

  • I’m Hearing today should be the day we get an announcement from Dickinson. This has been a constant moving target. For example, it looked like Dickinson wouldn’t announce until this weekend at one point yesterday.

    • Note: This Hearing is based on multiple conversations late last night. No one has indicated a timeline change (yet).

  • I thought things looked good for Kansas yesterday. Really good.

    • Kansas has maintained quiet confidence throughout the recruitment of Dickinson. Indications stayed positive throughout the weekend, leading into the expected Tuesday announcement.

  • Kansas is still in the conversation, but I genuinely don’t know more. I’m not sure KU knows where it stands, either. This isn’t good or bad, it’s a genuine and honest “I don’t know.”

  • I’m Hearing there was confusion and stress as schools waited to hear word yesterday. It sounds chaotic. Especially in Lawrence where the staff was still with five-star Mackezie Mgbako on his visit (a very positive visit).

  • I want to stress how high the stakes are for Kansas here. I’m Hearing at least one, if not two, current players could transfer out if Dickinson picks the Jayhawks. There will be a series of moves to follow either way.

    • If Dickinson picks KU, I’ll update with how I see this paying out. If he chooses a different school, I’ll dive into where KU goes from here.

  • This isn’t purely a basketball decision for Dickinson. He’s a bonafide star in college basketball, but he doesn't necessarily have a guaranteed NBA career. Dickinson's highest promised earning potential is right here, right now, in college.

  • Ultimately, Dickinson wants to maximize his earning potential. That is the major underlying current driving this decision. It’s probably the reason for the delay, too. I don’t blame him, either. I’d do the same thing.

  • When Dickinson left his visit to Lawrence, I’d Heard KU did everything it possibly could to win him over. As of Tuesday night, that tone didn’t change. I still don’t know if it’ll be enough.

I’ll keep you updated as the day goes.

Yup, this is ScoopsMafia ❤️
