Spygate at Allen Fieldhouse? 😂
I started asking questions Thursday morning about rumors of Iowa State allegedly filming Kansas State’s huddle. The Kansas City Star even wrote about the KState staff’s concerns during the Iowa State game. From what I can tell, this kind of thing is pretty abnormal.
But I did hear one story that I thought you’d enjoy…
I have no idea what's going on. One of the K-State assistant coaches pointed over at some ISU managers next to me who were sweeping the floor and, I think, yelled "cheating mother-fers." Everybody is mad.

The KU-KState rivalry in Bruce Weber’s last season got pretty petty. The KState coach said he wouldn’t cut his hair until the NCAA punished cheating teams for the FBI scandal. The statement seemed like a shot at KU, which still hadn’t resolved its NCAA issues at the time. This came after Weber had already ‘Asked Fran’ and Silvio grabbed The Stool.
So, Weber and his shaggy hair came into Allen Fieldhouse for the final time on Feb 22, 2022. Kansas State was 13-13, playing a No. 5 KU team that would go on to win the National Championship.
As the story goes, a non-coaching KU staff member noticed someone in a gray Kansas State shirt, allegedly filming the Jayhawks’ huddles from the stands during a timeout. The staffer told another KU Athletics employee who had a better view — and sure enough, they confirmed the suspicious activity. The individual was ejected by security, apparently without putting up any fight.
The identity of the filmer — a mere fan or something more nefarious — remains a mystery. The incident sparked speculation at the time that KState may have attempted to gain an in-game advantage by filming KU’s huddle.
If so, it really didn’t work. KU beat KState 102-83.
From a practical perspective, it was probably just a fan.. right? But the idea that Weber would try to pull this off only to get caught and lose by 19 has been cracking me up all day. At the time, the employees seemed to think it was something more serious.
I was told the coaching staff wasn’t concerned with the incident at all. It would go against the idea of not “worrying about the mules”
Which… is a lot different than what we saw with KState and Jerome Tang in Ames this week.
