KU Football Transfer Portal Heating Up🔥👀

Kansas just landed its first big commit of the football transfer portal window — and it hopes to have another on the way soon.

FIRST: The Jayhawks got a commitment from Michigan transfer OL Amir Herring on Thursday. Herring was a four-star recruit last year and reportedly picked Michigan over Nebraska.

The 6’3”, 300-pound guard is a promising fit with a KU staff known for developing its players. Herring has four years of eligibility after redshirting his freshman season.

I spoke to one D-I coach with knowledge of Herring’s game from high school. The coach suggested not to expect a Michigan-level player (which shouldn’t be a surprise), but that he’s a quality Power-Five interior lineman.

“He’s a good get,” the coach said.

Herring also had a built-in connection with KU. His cousin is promising freshman QB Isaiah Marshall.

The Jayhawks set out to add an offensive lineman through the portal. With Herring, they not only add much-needed depth, they are also bringing in a high-ceiling talent over the long run.

And KU may have another promising young talent on the way.

SECOND: The Jayhawks hosted Michigan State transfer DE Bai Jobe for a visit this week. Jobe was the No. 55 recruit in the country and a top 10 DE just one year ago, according to 247Sports.

I’m Hearing adding a DE is KU’s top priority right now, and I think Jobe is the primary target. The EDGE rusher also has four years to play after redshirting.

Jobe is expected to visit Mississippi State this weekend. I’ll keep you posted if I Hear more.

Here’s what 247Sports wrote about Jobe in high school:

With him still being fairly new to football one could expect a nice uptick in every aspect of his game from the physical to the mental. That growth matched with what he brings to the table will allow for him to have a college career on the Power-5 level as a starter for at least a couple of seasons. With the demand for edge rushers steadily becoming more and more vital to the NFL game he has all the tools and traits to have a NFL future.

The Biggest Win: KU retained its entire team during the latest transfer window. The Jayhawks fought off other schools trying to lure their players away and will bring a loaded roster into fall camp as a result.

It’s easy to overlook just how hard this was for KU.

Because it kept everyone, the staff was able to focus on its two primary positions of need (OL and DE). They hope to have their roster wrapped up soon, and it seems like they have a good chance.

🏀 CBSSports published it’s transfer portal winners and losers — and the Jayhawks are winners.

🏈 Kansas baseball has won seven in a row and is 11-1 in its last 12 games. It seems like Travis Goff nailed his hire by bringing in Dan Fitzgerald in 2022. The Jayhawks play @ Kansas State tonight.
