Last week I told you KU was close to landing French big man Brice Dessert, “but there was a potential roadblock.” Well, that roadblock is looking more like a brick wall.

But the Jayhawks aren't standing still: they have a visitor on campus while actively targeting international big men.

This is what I’m Hearing:

The Dessert situation:
Momentum is moving the wrong way for KU to land French big man Brice Dessert. It appears he’s now unlikely to play for the Jayhawks.

• A source indicated the Dessert applied for NCAA eligibility last week.

• The belief is that he applied to play for KU.

• Something must’ve given the Jayhawks pause after he applied.

• Either eligibility concerns emerged, or the process looked like it would be longer/messier than expected.

  • When you apply for NCAA eligibility, you disclose everything from your school record to your professional contracts.

• It was enough for KU to keep working the international big man market (more on that below).

A Visitor in Lawrence:
The second-leading scorer (27.3ppg) in D2 last season, Camron McDowell, posted a now-deleted Instagram story from Lawrence last night. (Link to his IG)

• McDowell has high-major scoring potential. He shot 39% from three last season.

• Multiple Power-Conference schools are interested. He visited Utah ~two weeks ago.

• I Heard KU had interest in McDowell earlier this month, but multiple independent sources weren’t sure if he’d have eligibility after 4 years between D1 and D2.

  • I’m guessing KU got some clarity before bringing him in for the visit.
