On May 12, Indiana fans went after Hunter Dickinson on Twitter/X after McDonald’s All-American Mackenzie Mgbako unexpectedly picked the Hoosiers over the Jayhawks at the last minute.

Before Mgbako’s announcement, Dickinson tweeted a radar GIF, which appeared to indicate Mgbako was committing to Kansas… which may have been my bad.

Dickinson’s tweet was a fantastic nod to KUHearings, as the Scoopsmafia community used the same radar GIF all summer whenever we landed a KU recruiting scoop. It was his way of saying, ‘I’m one of you now.’

But Mgbako’s last minute flip put Dickinson in a… not so good spot with an Indiana fanbase that already wasn’t a fan of his.

Even before the misfire, he joined me for a Twitter Space, specifically calling out his excitement for this game. Dickinson lost his last three games to the Hoosiers at Michigan, including a 75-73 overtime loss at Assembly Hall effectively sending the Wolverines to the NIT last year.

I spoke to ‘The Source’ about all of this recently. He said KU needs Dickinson to play composed while remembering it’s Kansas vs. Indiana, not Hunter vs. Indiana. He mentioned Dickinson struggled in KU’s exhibition game at Illinois this year in another B1G road enviornment.

Still, The Source and I agreed the extra motivation for KU’s big man is probably a good thing. And either way, it’s gonna be fun to watch.

It’s time to shout out Mass St. NIL in helping KU football retain its star players this offseason.

Yes, the coaching staff deserves a ton of credit, too. The players won’t stay if not for the coaches. They’ve established a culture far beyond what KU fans could’ve hoped for.

But for Kansas football to keep its star QB, RB, DBs, and more in this era of college football goes beyond coaching. Just look at Kansas State, for example. I’ve Heard its NIL situation is a mess. The Wildcats have 16 players intending to transfer. The Jayhawks have four players currently expected to leave.

NIL is a massive part of this, and I encourage KU fans to keep supporting the collective. You can directly help KU win more games and change the future of the program.
