Hearings are Changing with Two Major KU Targets

Iā€™ve repeatedly said recruiting is fluid. Decisions can change overnight. By sending these so frequently, weā€™re gonna have some major twists. And we have one happening now in KUā€™s world.

Summary: I now think Jaylon Tyson is more likely to be a Jayhawk than Arterio Morris. Hereā€™s why:

Arterio Morris

  • I indicated signs pointed to PG Arterio Morris committing to Kansas just yesterday. Those signs can now be replaced with Hearings.

  • Iā€™m Hearing waning confidence about Morris committing to Kansas on Friday. There is thought he will go to DePaul, which was considered the early leader when Morris first entered the portal.

    • I also believe Morris, or his camp, has a relationship with head coach Tony Stubblefield.

  • I genuinely donā€™t know where Morris lands, but if I had to bet, Iā€™d take DePaul. Iā€™d put a decent chunk on it, too.

    • Friendly reminder that PG Primo Spears is currently visiting Kansas. Have said it before, but his camp favors KU ā€” if thereā€™s space for him.

Jaylon Tyson

  • Tyson is now visiting Kansas this weekend (first reported by The Athleticā€™s highly credible Tobias Bass). KU had been working on getting this visit done for a while.

  • The Texas Tech transfer wing is a perfect fit for Kansas, with or without Hunter Dickinson. Tyson can play the ā€œthreeā€ or the ā€œfourā€ while providing length and shooting.

    • Just last night Tyson picked up two ā€œCrystal Ballsā€ predicting he plays for Cal from 247Sports. Tyson already visited Berkeley, a school that hired a Texas Tech assistant and landed another transfer from Lubbock.

      • Yes, I realize going against the Crystal Ball isnā€™t the smartest idea. Iā€™m following my Hearings, though.

  • I Hear Kansas is in a solid spot to land Tyson despite last nightā€™s indications for Cal. Maybe the Bears are the leader, but I donā€™t think KU is far behind.

  • The Jayhawks will still have a major gap on their roster if they only get one of Tyson or Morris. Theyā€™ll either need another proven guard or a wing. Theyā€™d also be out of scholarships if Dickinson commits.

    • In this scenario, Iā€™m Hearing KU is ready and willing to open up an extra scholarship spot. I donā€™t think this is the most likely scenario right now. IF it happens, the most obvious candidates are:

      • Incoming freshman PG Chris Johnson.

      • PG Kyle Cuffe (who is adamant he wonā€™t leave).

      • Maybe Zuby Ejiofor if Dickinson comes in (unlikely, but the depth chart is stacked at center).

A Quick Hunter Dickinson Update

  • I do sense some nervousness from KUā€™s side about Kentucky and Hunter Dickinson.

  • Iā€™ve gotten conflicting intel on Kentucky here. I think Dickinsonā€™s team has indicated The Wildcats arenā€™t a likely landing spot, but Iā€™m not sure KU feels the same way.

  • Common thought for Dickinsonā€™s timeline is a commitment early next week. Iā€™m thinking Tuesday is most likely, but Monday is possible as well.

    • Dickinson has been fairly unpredictable through this process. Iā€™d think his announcement will be planned and promoted, but Iā€™m counting out any surprises here.

Help Get The Hearings Out of Promos

I get penalized by email clients like GMail, Apple, Yahoo, etc., by sending news as it happens. The lack of consistent timing means I may end up in the promos or spam tab in your email.

Hereā€™s how to help:

  1. Drag the KU Hearings email from your promos or spam tab to your primary inbox.

  2. GMail users: A popup notification will appear in the lower lefthand corner. Click Yes to ensure future emails go to your primary tab.
