Memorial Stadium Update
Let’s talk about the Memorial Stadium renovations.
I know there’s been some confusion around what exactly is happening when. I’ll do my best to break it down.
First, I’d separate the idea of the hotel and commercial space from the literal rebuilding of the stands. This is one massive project with a lot of smaller projects built within.
For example, if the hotel gets delayed — that doesn’t mean the stadium construction will also be held back.
I’ve Heard the stadium portion of this project is on schedule as planned.
@KUAthletics@KU_Football Mr. Hearings: Still don’t understand what’s going on with the east side stands. Goff’s mention of it a few months back was convoluted if I remember right. Any insight?

Phase 1: The Current Phase (Projected to be complete August 2025).
To answer the question above: The east side will be renovated in a future phase. It will not change with the current construction. More details below.
Renovating the weight room and locker room to Anderson Family Football Complex (Completed).
Tearing down and rebuilding the southwest, west, and north sides of the stadium. (The press box and bowl side).
This is all currently underway.
Building a conference center behind what was formerly the bowl.
It does NOT include the east side of the stands (the side with the student and visitors section).
You can see the half-completed stadium in the second and third renderings below.
What Memorial Stadium looked like to start
In the renderings above, you can see the east side looking the exact same compared to the renovated portions of the project. Some other key pieces of this phase:
The stands are moving much closer to the field.
There are tons of premium seats going in for the middle tiers.
The suites will be 80 feet closer to the field.
New chairback seats.
The new scoreboard will be 2.5x larger and much closer to the field.
The bowl is being reshaped and moved much closer to the field so the convention center (also pictured above) can be built in behind the stadium.
There’s a tunnel going from Anderson Family Football Complex right onto the field.
And I think we’re getting a party deck on top of Anderson, though I haven’t Heard updates on that in a while.
Check out the tunnel going in as we speak. This is via the live cams, which are totally worth checking out. You can see them here.
Phase 2 and Beyond: The Future Phases
These phases will focus on the east and south sides of the stands (the student section, visitor, and hill side).
Future phases will also include hotel, entertainment, dining, and retail.
KU will also connect the stadium 360 degrees, via the hill-side end zone.
I expect Kansas to play one or two seasons in the half-renovated stadium.
Ideally this would just be one season, but I think we’re all underestimating the speed in which this project is moving right now.
The current construction timeline is moving at an almost unprecedented of pace, as I understand it. They are going FAST.

KU Football landed two WRs commits for 2025 this weekend. Here are the newest Jayhawks
Jackson Cook | 6’1” 180 pounds | ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The three-star WR from Georgia officially visited UConn and Bowling Green, along with Kansas.
Cook recently picked up offers from Virginia and Memphis as well.
You can see his player profile here.
Tate Nagy | 5’10” 150 pounds | Son of Chiefs OC Matt Nagy
The local prospect is out of Blue Valley West HS.
He is unranked on 247Sports. I’d guess that’s partially because he is changing positions from QB to WR for college.
Nagy recently picked up a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
You can see his player profile here.
🏀 Svi and Paul Pierce were hanging out together at the Celtics NBA Championship parade.
👀🏀 Jayhawks have won NBA Championships for three-consecutive years. Can you name them all?
🏀 KU is dropping player pics in (old) jerseys for this year’s roster.
