What’s Next for KU after Zeke?
I love what the Jayhawks have done so far in the portal. They’re getting more athletic, better three-point shooting, and creating the kind of depth they desperately needed last year.
Side note: How cool is this? 👇
Did you know new KU commit Zeke Mayo has already hit a buzzer beater in Allen Fieldhouse?
Drilled this back in his high school days, from the logo against rival Lawrence Free State.

Here’s the latest:
KU technically doesn’t have any roster spots open right now. I’m assuming we’ll see at least two players leave via the Transfer Portal here soon.
I’ve Heard Jamari McDowell and Zach Clemence are likely candidates to transfer.
Elmarko Jackson isn’t a sure thing to leave. In fact, I’ve Heard he wants to return, and the staff will welcome him back.
I do wonder if Jackson’s mind will change if KU is bringing more guards in. It’s got to be a tough call for him.
I’m skeptical around the recent chatter around him returning. It’s a major pivot from what I expected a few weeks ago.
The Jayhawks would take the depth and continuity Jackson can provide.
I expect we find out soon.
I’ve Heard Hunter Dickinson is likely coming back. He may go get NBA feedback (why not?), but I think he’ll be in Lawrence next year. I certainly hope so.
Give me another year of Dickinson with more spacing. We gotta do this right.
Speaking of… I’ve Heard KU wants to add another big man to the roster.
Hunter Dickinson won’t be at his best if he’s playing so many minutes again. I think Flory Bidunga needs time to develop as well.
KU needs to be comfortable with the players its relying on… unlike last year.
It seems like a wing/scoring guard is the most likely piece for the other likely spot. (I think KU has a target, which I’ll explain below).
Or…maybe both.
KU has reportedly made contact with Stetson guard Jalen Blackmon. He averaged 21 points per game last year. Check out these highlights.
This indicates another scoring guard is a priority.
I’m not sure what Johnny Furphy will decide. I expect him to get NBA feedback. His decision largely depends on getting a promise from an NBA team.
The Jayhawks are making a clear adjustment after last season. They’re prioritizing depth and fit before chasing the bigger names… which (I’ll get to below).

KC NIL Event with Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal 🔥
This is awesome. Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal are joining KU fans for a fireside chat moderated by KU football legend Brandon McAnderson.
There will be hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and the kind of behind-the-scenes stories you wouldn’t normally hear otherwise. This is exactly the kind of NIL event that should get fans to show up.
When: 4-7pm, April 10.
Where: Mission Hills Country Club
Cost: Tax-deductible contribution of $500 per person (per the NIL Collective).
Let’s continue to make a difference and support KU football. If you’re in KC and know someone who may be interested, please pass this along!
