The Kansas Football Jayhawks are ranked No. 22 in first AP Poll of the season. The preseason rankings were unveiled on Monday morning. You can see the full top 25 here.

Some quick notes that jumped out at me:

  • At No. 22, Kansas has the fifth-best ranking in the Big 12. Theyā€™re behindā€¦

    • No. 12 Utah, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Kansas State, and No. 21 Arizona

  • Texas is ranked No. 4 and Oklahoma is No. 16. Not too upset to see them in a different conference this year. Have fun!

  • Missouri is ranked No. 11. Surely that wonā€™t end in disappointment for them. šŸ˜

  • Iowa State is receiving the fifth-most votes outside the top 25, and West Virginia got the eighth-most.

And my favorite part of the rankingsā€¦

Jayhawks Officially Add David Coit

Kansas adding Northern Illinois transfer David Coit to this yearā€™s team was officially announced by KU on Monday morning. Coit announced the news himself Friday night.

Iā€™m working on a newsletter that will address some major roster implications for this season. VIP Scoopers will get the latest by Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

Also, how cool is this? Check out these two texts VIP subscribers received on Monday morning ONE WEEK before KUā€™s announcement.

The scoops will come straight to your phone as they develop in real-time.

Quick Hearings on the Football New Stadium

1) The Upper Bowl is Coming Soon

A few of you have asked questions about the size of the new stadium. I think some people were worried about it after seeing construction start to take shape.

Those concerns will soon vanish.

Iā€™m Hearing construction on the upper deck is about to begin. We should see a new structure go up soon.

Currently, on the west side (below the red box) youā€™re looking at the lower bowl and two tiers of premium seating.

Soon youā€™ll see a new tier of seating go on top where the red box is located. I think this will look similar to the north upper bowl you can see in the south end zone. Itā€™ll be steeper, keeping the fans closer to the field.

Youā€™ll be able to get a much better sense of the size and scope of once the new deck starts going in.

2) All of the Lights

The size difference in lights is massive

Iā€™m Hearing the first six lights installed at the new stadium are the smallest of the bunch. When taking another look at the renderings, itā€™s worth paying attention to the height of the lights.

Iā€™ve Heard the midfield lights are around 10 stories taller than the ones on the north bowl.

The lights are going to be massive. I believe the lights were a central part of the design with this stadium ā€” not just a convenient add on at the end. Theyā€™re made to be a central feature.

I donā€™t know about you ā€” but I hadnā€™t realized just how much substance and presence these lights are going to give KU.

I first realized this when I saw the new stadium added into the new CFB25 video game. I had some conversations from there and realized the images below might be closer to reality than I previously understood.

I think weā€™ll see these bigger lights soon. They should start popping up with the upper deck construction starting soon.

3) Field Design at Arrowhead Stadium

I think the Jayhawksā€™ field at Arrowhead this season should look similar to what you can see below.

My best guess is that a Jayhawk at midfield probably wasnā€™t feasible for quick Chiefs turnarounds.

Using the block font (instead of Trajan) definitely signals something. It continues to look like the Jayhawks are phasing out Trajan ā€” expect for the literal Jayhawk itself (for now).

I expect KU to return to a Jayhawk at midfield for the new stadium unless people love the block letters this year.

Iā€™ve also Heard KU will consider going with the Warhawk at midfield in the new stadium, though I donā€™t think any decisions have been made yet.

And check out this tweet from TWO years agoā€¦.

šŸˆ Jason Bean had a strong showing in his Colts preseason debut vs. the Broncos. You can watch his first NFL TD pass here. He led the team with 24 rushing yards on 4 attempts.

šŸˆ Austin Booker had a monster preseason game for the Bears. He had 2.5 sacks and 5 QB pressures. Check out his highlights here.

šŸˆ KU posted an nice TD run from freshman RB Harry Stewart. I believe the big back is turning some heads in camp right now.
