The Circus is coming home.
I’m Hearing Kansas basketball will return to Circus font jerseys for the 2024-2025 season. The traditional jerseys are expected to be more than a one-season stint. I’d expect them to be a long-term change for the Jayhawks.
The Circus font uniforms echo a different era of Kansas basketball. Many KU fans fondly remember the years with the Circus font “K-A-N-S-A-S” sprawled across All-Americans’ jerseys. Names like Paul Pierce, Raef Lafrentz, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, Kenny Gregory, Jeff Boschee, Wayne Simien, and Jacque Vaughn, all played in the Circus era.
While I get being excited, I want to clarify: The anticipated jersey change is NOT for this season. It’s for NEXT year (and likely, the years to follow).
AD Travis Goff is spearheading a rebranding for the entire athletic department. Football already announced a uniform change, and I’ve even heard the font is switching back to Circus inside the Wagnon Student-Athlete center.
Kansas moved away from Circus jerseys in favor of Trajan in 2007. Ever since the change, KU fans have clamored for a return to Circus. Fellow KU newsletter writer Corban Goble (and great guy) wrote a strong piece in 2019 advocating for the return of Circus. He said:
KU basketball loves to flaunt its history, but isn’t utilizing any of it when it comes to the visual identity of the Jayhawks, one of the most visible teams in the sport. It’s a wasted opportunity.
The opportunity is now being seized. KU has been teasing the change with its social media for a while now. And it’s my understanding the old-school jerseys are coming home.
And I can’t wait to see ‘em. What do you think? 👇
