🏀 The Source Returns 🏀 Early KU Hoops Intel
Early KU Hearings subscribers will remember The Source. He’s someone I trust who provided extra scoopy analysis and breakdowns before games all season.
The intel:
The Source is typically down on the team this time of year. However, that’s not the case right now. The early hype seems real. The team looks good, deep, and more athletic than last year.
Much of this is subject to change once the offense and defense are implemented. This normally weeds players out after the summer.
Plenty of players have looked good this time of the year who never made a major difference for the team (Cam Martin).
We know Hunter Dickinson will be good. The Source says he’s as advertised. He’s not the most athletic or mobile, but he has excellent hands on both sides of the court.
The Source likes Arterio Morris’ game. A lot. He thinks Morris starts, which isn’t a hot take, but still good to hear.
I’m also Hearing we should have a resolution in Morris’ court case in Texas soon.
The Source says Nick Timberlake is a better athlete than expected. I’ve Heard this from a number of people. And he’s a stud shooter, as we know.
Freshman Elmarko Jackson’s potential is MAJOR. He needs to improve his ball handling and shooting, but the Source loves his mentality and talent. He should impact the team this year and understands the game at a high level.
Another freshman, Jamari McDowell, has impressed. The Source says the PG is better than anticipated. He’s athletic, holding his own, and is wildly competitive. The only concern is how hard McDowell is on himself so far. The PG will have to learn to trust himself.
The staff wants KJ Adams to play on the perimeter only. So does Adams himself. If we see him at center, that means someone’s in foul trouble, or someone’s hurt.
I keep hearing the prototype for Adams is UConn’s Andre Jackson, who was able to facilitate despite not being a great shooter.
If Adams won’t play at center, I’d have to think KU wants to add another big man to the roster. More to come on that another day 👀
I’m workin on it!
And then there’s Dajuan Harris. The Source says he’s the same, but he should look better due to the players around him.
The Puerto Rico trip is critical for the team to figure out lineups before the season.
The Source was also surprised with the team’s chemistry so far. The team understands their roles, which isn’t normally the case this early.
The Source is optimistic so far. And I’m fired up to Hear it. If you enjoyed these Hearings, please help me out by telling your friends to sign up!

Kansas Football JAYHAWKS 👏
Kansas football legit plucked a CB out of Iowa’s hands Wednesday, landing a commit from 4-star Jalen Todd. The Jayhawks are on a recruiting frenzy right now, picking up four quality players since June 11.
For the class of 2024, the Jayhawks are ranked:
No. 34 nationally and 2nd in the Big 12 (via 247Sports)
No. 40 nationally and 3rd in the Big 12 (via Rivals)
No. 37 nationally and 3rd in the Big 12 (via On3.com)
Right now 70% of #kufball’s commits are top 1,000 players for 2024
Their next best in the 247 Sports era (I believe 2010) is 42.9% (2023) and 40.6% (2011)

So, it’s clear things are picking up. We’ve seen this kind of flurry before from the Jayhawks, so I hope to explore if it’s for real this time. That’ll be a fun but challenging Hearings to write.
For now, all eyes turn to four-star WR Nick Marsh. He’d be the third KU commit from the Detroit area. He’s coming off a visit to Penn St. and has one scheduled for Michigan St. soon. It appears the Jayhawks have a legit chance at going up against Big Ten powers — and winning.
Yeah, it continues to look like there’s a new era in Lawrence.
Yup, This is Scoopsmafia 😂
Lance Leipold is coming.
