TRANSFER PORTAL TRACKER

The portal is a moving target where things can change fast.

This is what I’m Hearing:

📈 Melvin Council | 6’4” guard | St. Bonaventure | 1 Year

  • Council just finished his visit to Kansas and remains a top priority for the Jayhawks.

  • Council is a long, athletic, guard known for his toughness. He’ll defend the best perimeter player on the floor for an entire game.

    • This is the kind of player you want on the court to help take some pressure off Darryn Peterson.

      • He averaged 37.1 mpg and played the full 40 minutes in St. Bonnie’s final four games.

  • Council shot just 29.9% from three, but there’s some clear room for improvement (per Synergy..)

    • 27% shooting off the dribble last year. These are shots he’s unlikely to take this season.

      • 81% from the free throw line suggests strong enough fundamentals.

    • With less minutes and more set looks, there’s reason to think his shooting numbers tick up a small bit.

  • 🔮 PREDICTION: He’s a Jayhawk

Check out his stats here. And watch the video below if you want to see why I think he’s a classic KU basketball player. 👇

📉 Xaivian Lee | 6’4” guard | Princeton | Rising Senior

  • The scoring guard visited Kansas late last week.

  • He’s a highly-regarded portal wing, known for his offensive ability.

  • I think both KU and Lee took the visit as a “why not?”

    • Lee has been considered a Florida lean for some time, and I think the Jayhawks had Council as their priority, too.

  • Florida was considered the leader prior to the visit, and I’m Hearing the Gators still lead.

  • Outlook: I’d be surprised if he ends up a Jayhawk.

Check out his stats here.

🆕📈 Cedric Coward | 6’6” wing | Wash St. | Senior

  • Here’s where things get interesting. I’m Hearing the Jayhawks are going to make a run at Coward.

    • He’s a big, physical wing who is also going through the NBA Draft process.

  • He only played 6 games for Washington St. due to a shoulder injury.

    • He averaged 17.7 pts and 7 rebs while shooting 40% from three.

  • Coward’s a major target and fits a need for the Jayhawks as another perimeter scorer.

  • I think he’s worth a serious watch here.

    • There’s a real chance he stays in the NBA Draft, but if not, I think KU is in play.

Watch a 40 second highlight clip here.

🆕 Paul Mbiya | 6’11” big | France

  • I’m Hearing KU is taking a look at the long, Congolese big man. He’s got a 7’8” wing span.

  • While I think there’s some interest from KU, I think he’s unlikely as a fit.

    • He’s pretty raw and the Jayhawks will need another big man they can rely on.

📉 Malik Ewin | 6’11” big | Florida St. | Rising Sr.

  • The Jayhawks explored the FSU big man, but I don’t think he’s coming to Kansas.

  • He’d likely want more money and a bigger role than the Jayhawks can offer.

📉 Duke Brennan | 6’10” big | Grand Canyon | Rising Sr.

  • Brennan is similar to Ewin. He’s not likely to be a Jayhawk and might be able to take advantage of a weak market for centers.
