Two Portal Names to Watch
1) Rylan Griffen | Wing | 6’6” | Alabama | Two Years Remaining
Griffen hit The Portal on Thursday night and immediately jumped to the top of my list for KU. As of Friday morning, I’ve Heard he’s a top priority for the Jayhawks.
Griffen is a sharp-shooting wing who is an immediate fit for this year’s roster. He shot 39% from three in Alabama’s fast-paced offense.
KU hosted Griffen for an official visit out of high school, so there’s familiarity with the staff.
There will be competition for Griffen. He’s immediately one of the top players in The Portal. The Longhorns will likely be interested in the Texas native as well.
2) AJ Storr | Wing | 6’7” | Wisconsin | Two Years Remaining
Storr is another one of the biggest names in The Portal. He’s probably the most accomplished wing available. He was second-team All-B1G for Wisconsin this year.
Storr averaged 16.8 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 32% from three. His shooting numbers are a bit misleading. He was asked to do more for UW’s offense than he would at KU. He’s a great scorer who can get his own bucket.
I’ve mentioned him as a name to watch previously — and VIP subscribers have gotten regular updates about Storr. He’s another top target for the Jayhawks.
Storr is exploring the NBA Draft process. If he returns to college, the Jayhawks will be in contention.
I don’t think Griffen entering The Portal changes anything with Storr, but I’m working on making sure. As always, I’ll keep you posted.
Bill Self Quotes from Thursday’s Team Banquet
Bill Self on this season:
"Losing is something that could be a learning experience now becomes disaster. Isn't that the program that we have? Would you want it any other way?... Our short comings this year will be addressed and we'll be as good as we ever been."

Bill Self, asked if there's urgency to get answers from Johnny Furphy and Hunter Dickinson:
"They'll make their own announcements when the times right, but I think we know enough to work around the little bit that we know. It just hasn't become public yet."

I asked Bill Self about Calipari taking the Arkansas job.
"I'm happy for him... I hope he does well, just not at our expense."
Self says for a coach to being 'in a pressure cooker like that' for 15 years is uncommon today.
