Hearing: What Happened with Dame Sarr
First, apologies for the delay in newsletters. Iāve been in Europe on vacation and itās been harder to feel confident in the information Iām sharing as a result. It doesnāt help that the news below (and in VIP) are moving targets.
Thanks for your patience!
Just one week ago, it looked like Kansas would land promising European guard Dame Sarr. I believe he verbally committed, or indicated, he was choosing KU.
By Wednesday, that plan changed. What Iām Hearing:
KU is no longer the favorite.
I believe Sarr rescinded the commitment.
Duke is now considered the leader.
Heās visiting Duke today, according to a report from earlier this morning.
I believe the Blue Devils were always Sarrās preferred option, and they outbid the Jayhawks in a last-second push.
This all happened after Dukeās incoming transfer Cedric Coward had a great NBA Draft Combine performance early this week. Heās now likely to go pro and not play for the Blue Devils.
Cowardās showing opened up a spot and more money for Duke to push harder for Sarr.
Itās not over, but it really doesnāt look good for Kansas right now.
Whatās Next for KU?
KU has interest in Arkansas transfer guard Boogie Fland and Texas Tech transfer Darrion Williams.
Williams will likely be KUās primary target.
Heās been pursuing the NBA Draft, but didnāt measure up particularly well at the combine.
Iām Hearing itās increasing likely Williams will return to college.
Iāve long Heard KU is in a good spot with Williams if he does come back to college, but the Jayhawks have some real competition.
Both NC State and Ohio State are legit players for Williams.
Both schools can compete financially with the Jayhawks.
This recruitment is gonna be a battle.
Along with Williams, I believe the Jayhawks are interested in multiple International players.
There was a report that KU has expressed at least some level of interest in multiple 6ā9ā Croatian prospects.
Iāve previously told VIP subscribers that KU was exploring international backup big options. I believe thatās still the case.
I do believe the Jayhawks are going to try to bring at least one international player in for this season.
As always, Iām working it⦠and Iāll keep you posted.
