What’s Next for Kansas?

via @WitByWolf

First, premium/VIP members got the definitive Kevin McCullar news early via the Discord last night. In the future, I’ll try to send a Premium-only email when I have Hearings like this.

It’s $7 per month or $70 for the year and helps support the work I’m doing here.

Let me know if you’ve upgraded and want to join the VIP Discord rooms by replying to this email or DMing me on Twitter.

I understand only some can or want to do that. You can still hang with us on the very active free Discord channels here.

Get On With It. What’s Next for KU?

The Jayhawks will start the year as the No. 1 team in the country — and they still have an open scholarship.

Here’s what I’m Hearing about what to expect moving forward:

  • The chatter I’m catching is that Kansas is probably done adding players. I’ve got a few caveats on this, which I’ll get to in a minute.

    • Friendly reminder: Kansas has a self-imposed reduction of three total scholarships over the next three years.

  • Kevin McCullar’s return gives Kansas a complete rotation. It doesn’t need to add anyone else. It makes sense if the Jayhawks are done… but..

  • Grant Nelson is looming. The 6’11” big from North Dakota State could still return to college after going through the NBA Draft process. Nelson is a scoring big who, in theory, could play next to Hunter Dickinson.

  • Nelson has connections to KU players. He’s represented by WME, the same agency working with Grady Dick and Jalen Wilson. Nelson has been prepping for the Draft with the two Jayhawks.

  • I’ve Heard KU is hesitant about adding Nelson, because the coaching staff doesn’t want to blatantly recruit over KJ Adams. It sounds like there’s still a strong sense of loyalty at KU in amid the transfer portal chaos.

    • My hunch is that Kansas is legitimately looking into adding Nelson. I don’t anticipate many leaks on this one out of respect to Adams.

    • I say this for a simple reason: Nelson is really good. KU has a spot open. How could the Jayhawks not at least look into it?

  • Ernest Udeh still needs to find a landing spot. Duke was thought to be the early leader, but it appears to have cooled off. I’ve Heard Bill Self has stayed in touch with Udeh throughout the transfer process.

    • While returning to Kansas is a little more likely than it looked two weeks ago, it’s still improbable. The Jayhawks just can’t offer much playing time this year.

      • Also, I’d be pretty stunned if Udeh ends up at Kansas State despite some reported interest there.

  • The roster is likely complete, but we need to watch the May 31 NBA Draft deadline. The staff sure will be.

As always, I’ll keep you posted. Thank you for sharing the scoop.

Memorial Stadium Scoops Coming Soon

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve got Hearings ready to go for Memorial Stadium renovations. I can’t wait for this.

It’ll be the first email after we hit 7,000 subscribers. I think we get there today. Allen Fieldhouse renovations will come at 8,000 subscribers, so keep helping build this community and sharing the scoop! Thank you!

Yup, this is Scoopsmafia 😂🤷‍♂️
