Blyden Commits + the Portal Plan Coming together 🏀
Toledo guard Leroy Blyden has committed to play for Kansas next year.
The 6’1” freshman averaged 16.4 points on 40.7% shooting from three this year. He’s ranked No. 12 overall on Evan Miya’s portal player rankings.
Blyden projects as a starter for a Kansas roster that is starting
The pieces are coming together for KU. More on that below.
Quick VIP announcement before we get into it: I have a new Hearing on Tyran Stokes at the bottom of today's newsletter. I’m also launching a new portal tracker so you can easily tap in and keep track of everything.
It’s one page, updated in real time with the latest news and players to watch.
If you're not VIP yet, today might be the day. 🔒
The picture is getting clearer
Right now, KU’s starting lineup projects as:
G: Freshman Tay Kinney
G: Toledo transfer Leroy Blyden
W: ??? (Stokes?)
W/F: Utah transfer Keanu Dawes
C: ??? (Reeves?)
That three-spot looks ripe for 2026’s No. 1 recruit, Tyran Stokes. KU also has a 7'2” big man visiting today in Christian Reeves, along with athletic combo guard Vyctorious Miller (more on them in a second).
The pieces are starting to fall into place, and we should have more answers by this time next week. It’s gonna be a busy few days.
Here’s the latest:
✅ Leroy Blyden | Toledo Transfer | 6-1 Guard — COMMITTED
My take: Two things KU fans need to know about Blyden: speed and shooting. He’s gonna be a lot of fun.
Notes:
16.4 PPG on 40.7% from three as a freshman
No. 12 in Evan Miya's portal rankings
Projects as KU's starting two-guard alongside Kinney
And he’s clutch. Check this out.
✅ Keanu Dawes | Utah Transfer | 6-9 Forward — COMMITTED
My take: Dawes projects to start at the 4. He’s an elite rebounder (No. 24 overall in DReb% on KenPom), athletic, efficient, and can impact the game without needing a ton of touches.
Notes:
12.5 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 2.2 APG on 54.6% FG as a junior
Led Utah in rebounds and field goal percentage. Started all 32 games
Played the five last year, provides some flexibility
One year of eligibility remaining
🏀 Moustapha Thiam | Cincinnati Transfer | 7-2 Center
Hearing: Thiam is visiting Michigan today, but I’m Hearing KU is still in contact with him and hopes to get him to Lawrence for a visit. Until proven otherwise, Michigan is the frontrunner (and a bigger spender than KU hoops…)
My lean: A Michigan lean for now. Worth watching if that KU visit comes together this week.
Notes:
12.8 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.6 BPG on 52.5% FG
Averaged 17.7 PPG over his final 9 games
Dropped 28 on Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse (woof)
No. 11 in On3's portal rankings
Visiting Michigan
🏀 Christian Reeves | Charleston Transfer | 7-2 Center
Hearing: I'm Hearing Reeves projects as the starting center if Thiam doesn't materialize. The former Duke and Clemson player visits Lawrence today, and he ranks in the top 50 nationally in offensive rebound %, defensive rebound %, and block %.
My lean: I think KU likes him enough for this one to be taken seriously. I’m not too sure how this plays out with multiple moving parts (Thiam, Euros), but I’d say Kansas is the favorite here if it wants him as a starter.
Notes:
Top 50 in OReb%, DReb%, and Block%
7-2 with real rim protection numbers
Visiting KU on Monday
Played for Duke as a freshman. Sometimes bigs take longer to develop. Emerged last year for Charleston.
🏀 Vyctorious Miller | Oklahoma State Transfer | 6-5 Guard
Hearing: Miller visits Lawrence on Monday alongside Reeves. I'm Hearing he'd take a sixth-man type of role at KU. At 6-5, he complements the smaller Blyden well — and is a really nice creator to have off the bench.
My lean: That's a good get if they close it, and I like where KU stands right now.
Notes:
10.8 PPG as a sophomore at Oklahoma State
Top-100 recruit out of high school
6-5 guard who fits next to Blyden
Visiting KU on Monday
Would you rather land...?
Quick Hits 🏀
A lot of movement this week. Here's where the other names stand:
Terrence Hill Jr.: Committed to Tennessee. I'm Hearing he wasn't expected to start at KU.
DeSean Goode: Committed to Miami. He was unlikely for Kansas once Keanu Dawes committed.
Alex Wilkins: Committed to Kentucky. See ya.
Terrence Brown (Utah): Not likely for KU. His visit felt more exploratory than serious, and with Dawes committed, I don't see this one happening.
Anton Bonke (Charlotte): Taking his other visits. Could be in play if the starting spot stays open, but KU’s focus is on Reeves and Thiam right now.
As always, I'll keep you posted. More Hearings coming fast… we have a big week ahead.
