KU Lands Alabama Transfer Rylan Griffen 🎯

The Jayhawks have officially landed their top two targets in the portal.

Kansas got a commitment from Alabama transfer Rylan Griffen. The 6’6” wing was one of KU’s top targets from the day he hit the portal (along with commit AJ Storr).

Griffen has the talent and experience to make a big difference for KU. He is an excellent fit for the team that needs someone to help space the floor and add length on defense.

Kansas wanted shooting, length, and experience this offseason. Griffen brings all of that... and should keep getting better.

The sophomore averaged 11.2 points per game on 39% three-point shooting as a starter for Alabama’s Final Four team. He graded as an excellent three-point shooter and scored just as high on “long-three pointers,” per Synergy sports.

He scored double-digits in 12 SEC games, including a 21-point outing at Kentucky and 19 against UNC in The Tournament.

It was clear KU was on Griffen from the start. The staff recruited him out of high school, and he even visited KU the first time around. It didn’t work out two years ago — and it didn’t matter.

KU got its guy.

Below were my VIP updates when Griffen first hit the transfer portal. You can sign up for updates as everything plays out in real-time here.

Projecting KU’s Lineup

Look, it’s still April. This is totally absurd. But we’re KU fans. This is what we do 😂.

While this could all change (again, it’s APRIL) this is how I see KU’s starting lineup shaking out — with a few caveats.

Option 1

  • PG: Dajuan Harris

  • SG: Rylan Griffen

  • SF: AJ Storr

  • PF: KJ Adams

  • C: Hunter Dickinson

Option 2

  • PG: Dajuan Harris

  • SG: Zeke Mayo

  • SF: Rylan Griffen

  • PF: AJ Storr

  • C: Hunter Dickinson

  • Option 1 is the most likely choice to start the year.

    • Both options are great lineups on paper.

  • Zeke Mayo will have a chance to earn a starting job whether Adams is starting at the four or not. He could beat out Griffen for the two spot.

    • But based on fit and defense, I’ll give the edge to Griffen for now.

  • Even if option one is the starting lineup, I think there would be plenty of games in which KU uses plays the four-wing lineup (Option 2) late in games.

  • The Jayhawks currently have one spot to fill. I’m Hearing there’s a chance this turns into two. I’ll share a speculative update on that in the VIP section below.. along with more big news I’m Hearing is… imminent.

Thank you so much for your support. As always, I’ll keep you posted.
