Allen Fieldhouse could bark again next year.

I'm Hearing Melvin Council has a real chance to return to Kansas next season. I don’t want to get your hopes up too much just yet, but the possibility has been explored throughout July.

Sources have indicated to KUHearings that Council applied for a waiver to get an extra year and was denied by the NCAA. But he can still challenge the denial in court.

From what I’m Hearing, there’s hope right now.

Council already got an extra year to play last season after a court ruled that JUCO doesn’t count toward eligibility and the NCAA gave a blanket waiver for one season. Council played two years of JUCO, so as it stands, one of those seasons counted against his eligibility.

I'm Hearing both Council and KU have interest in making this happen. But right now, it’s just a chance.

Council was headed down the pro ball track. His Summer League run with the Pelicans wrapped up in Vegas over the weekend, and he finished averaging 8 points and about 4 assists this summer. Matt Norlander recently reported on the possibility of going back to college from Summer League.

If Council doesn’t return to college, the Jayhawks still have options.

Javon Bardwell, KU's 5-star wing in the 2027 class, is still considering reclassifying for 2026. VIP subscribers were told back in early April that Bardwell was looking into a reclass that would land him on this year’s team.

It sounds like Bardwell still has a little ways to go for the reclass to happen. Once again, not a sure thing. But that's two possibilities in flight.

I’m Hearing KU wants to fill one of its two open spots with a big man.

I’ve already shared Serbian big Mihailo Musikic has committed and signed to play. But there's no guarantee he’s eligible, so I believe KU is working on backup options in case they can't land the Serbian.

That's basically three could-bes for two open spots. It’s a lot of uncertainty, and I don't think KU knows how it'll play out, either.

But only one of those three options is the dog. Council is the guy who got Self to bark on Senior Night. Twice.

And there’s hope he can make it three times.
