I’m Hearing Jacque Vaughn has emerged as a serious candidate to join KU’s coaching staff as an assistant. The former All-American point guard and two-time NBA head coach travelled to Lawrence this week as discussions ramped up.

This comes just days after Norm Roberts announced his retirement, ending a 14-year run at Kansas and a 22-year partnership with Bill Self.

With a new coaching spot now open, the Jayhawks may be turning to one of their most accomplished alumni to help fill the gap.

Negotiations are still ongoing. While I’ve Heard it’s close to happening, bigger coaching hires often fall apart over details. Vaughn isn’t your typical college assistant.

This hire would be a major move, and they’ll need to work through a few things to get it across the finish line… but again.. it’s close.
