Jaxson Robinson Commits to Kentucky

Jaxson Robinson kept everyone waiting. The BYU transfer didnโ€™t make any public announcement before Wednesday nightโ€™s deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft.

On Thursday, Robinson finally announced heโ€™s returning to play college basketball โ€” and will play for his old coach Mark Pope at Kentucky.

Iโ€™d Heard Kansas was in a good position to land Robinson last week. It sounds like Kentucky came in with a substantially larger NIL package. I think supply and demand worked out well for Robinson.

I think itโ€™ll be tough for KU to land a big name at this point in the offseason (there are two players Iโ€™m watching). The Jayhawks could use another ball handler โ€” or a player they expect to hang around a few years.

VIP subscribers will get a text as soon as I Hear more. There are two speculative names Iโ€™m sharing at the bottom of this email.

Johnny Furphy Officially NBA Bound.

Johnny Furphy officially announced heโ€™s headed to the NBA Draft on Wednesday evening. VIP subscribers got the early heads up. Furphy shared the news in a post on KUโ€™s social media channels.

โ€œNow is the time to pursue that dream,โ€ Furphy said in the post.

KU has expected Furphy to go pro all offseason. The staff has been prepared for it. On April 10, I wrote:

โ€œIโ€™ve Heard KU is recruiting as if Furphy wonโ€™t be back next yearโ€

And if it wasnโ€™t clear then, it was by the time the NBA Combine wrapped up.

Itโ€™s time to cheer for Furphy to go as high as possible. Bill Self said as much in KUโ€™s statement Wednesday: โ€œWe should all be excited for him.โ€

KU AD Travis Goff Extended, $1.6M Contract ๐Ÿ‘

Kansas and AD Travis Goff agreed to a seven-year extension that will keep him in Lawrence through 2031.

Goff was the lowest-paid AD in the Big 12 with his previous salary around ~$700,000. The new contract averages around $1.6M, according to ESPN, which is near the top of the league.

Itโ€™s hard to say Goff hasnโ€™t earned it. Heโ€™s completely turned around KU football, along with spearheading the Memorial Stadium rebuild and Allen Fieldhouse renovations.

VIP subscribers first got the news via a text from me around 9am CT Wednesday morning. ESPNโ€™s Pete Thamel shared the news about five hours later. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
