Jaxson Robinson Commits to Kentucky
Jaxson Robinson kept everyone waiting. The BYU transfer didnโt make any public announcement before Wednesday nightโs deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft.
On Thursday, Robinson finally announced heโs returning to play college basketball โ and will play for his old coach Mark Pope at Kentucky.
Iโd Heard Kansas was in a good position to land Robinson last week. It sounds like Kentucky came in with a substantially larger NIL package. I think supply and demand worked out well for Robinson.
I think itโll be tough for KU to land a big name at this point in the offseason (there are two players Iโm watching). The Jayhawks could use another ball handler โ or a player they expect to hang around a few years.
VIP subscribers will get a text as soon as I Hear more. There are two speculative names Iโm sharing at the bottom of this email.
Johnny Furphy Officially NBA Bound.
Johnny Furphy officially announced heโs headed to the NBA Draft on Wednesday evening. VIP subscribers got the early heads up. Furphy shared the news in a post on KUโs social media channels.
โNow is the time to pursue that dream,โ Furphy said in the post.
KU has expected Furphy to go pro all offseason. The staff has been prepared for it. On April 10, I wrote:
โIโve Heard KU is recruiting as if Furphy wonโt be back next yearโ
And if it wasnโt clear then, it was by the time the NBA Combine wrapped up.
Itโs time to cheer for Furphy to go as high as possible. Bill Self said as much in KUโs statement Wednesday: โWe should all be excited for him.โ
KU AD Travis Goff Extended, $1.6M Contract ๐
Kansas and AD Travis Goff agreed to a seven-year extension that will keep him in Lawrence through 2031.
Goff was the lowest-paid AD in the Big 12 with his previous salary around ~$700,000. The new contract averages around $1.6M, according to ESPN, which is near the top of the league.
Itโs hard to say Goff hasnโt earned it. Heโs completely turned around KU football, along with spearheading the Memorial Stadium rebuild and Allen Fieldhouse renovations.
VIP subscribers first got the news via a text from me around 9am CT Wednesday morning. ESPNโs Pete Thamel shared the news about five hours later. ๐
