This One Photo Blew Me Away 🤯
When I was writing Monday’s newsletter about the Memorial Stadium renovations, I came across a rendering that really stood out.
I don’t think many people have seen this yet. It came from the behind-the-scenes video KU released, which is worth a watch. You can see it here.
The image shows just how much the fan experience is gonna improve in the new stadium. I do a bit of digging to fully understand what I was seeing here.
The new stands (blue) vs. the old ones.
The picture above shows the north end zone where the old bowl used to be. This is literally showing the field, the new stands in blue, and the old stadium in gray.
I believe these new seats are ~20-yards closer to the field.
Let’s break it down.
You can see the goal line and the back of the end zone.
The two new tiers of seats in blue, with the old structure in gray.
Even the last row of the first tier in the new stadium appears to be where the first row in the old one started.
The worst seat is a little more than halfway up the old stands.
I mean, this is just a crazy difference.
The above image was taken two weeks before demolition started at the stadium. Now, check out what we’re looking forward to for the future.
It’s hard to believe how far away those seats were in the old stadium. I know it was from the track and the bowl, etc., but still!
The new stadium is gonna be a vast improvement, offering a much better and louder fan experience.
And we’re only one season away from seeing it come together. I can’t wait.

🏀 Travis Goff teased Circus Font. I repeat, Travis Goff teased the switch to Circus. I first wrote about the switch in 2023 and again this summer.
🏀 This feature story on Johnny Furphy’s ‘meteoric’ NBA Draft rise is a must-read.
🏈 KU football recruiting is trending way up.
The VIP-Only newsletter will drop later this week.
KU Hoops may not be done recruiting for this season. I think it’s a long shot, but there’s something I’m tracking.. 😅
I have earlyHearings on Zeke Mayo, Hunter Dickinson, AJ Storr, Flory Bidunda, Rakease Passmore, Shakeel Moore, and beyond.
The feedback on VIP has been amazing so far!
